Each Young Person joining Ember Vale is welcomed through a thoughtful transition process. During this time, we work closely with them, their family and Social Worker to understand their background, strengths, and goals. This helps us create a personalised support plan that sets out clear objectives and pathways for reaching them, such as managing money, developing routines, improving confidence or preparing for education, training and employment.

From day one, the focus is on progressive independence. Support Staff provide guidance without taking over, supporting Young People to make decisions, take ownership of daily tasks and learn from real-life experiences. We believe that empowerment happens through doing and every small success contributes to long-term independence.

The support at Ember Vale is holistic, strength-based and person-centred, covering every area of a Young Person’s development.

SUPPORT WE PROVIDE

Daily Living Skills

Our life skills programme helps Young People take control of their day-to-day lives. We provide practical training in cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal hygiene and maintaining a safe and comfortable home. Our Support Staff work alongside Young People to plan meals, shop for groceries and learn how to prepare nutritious dishes.

Budgeting and Money Management

Financial independence is essential to successful Adulthood. Our budgeting sessions include understanding bank accounts, managing weekly allowances, paying bills and distinguishing between needs and wants. Young People learn how to track spending, avoid debt and build confidence in managing money responsibly.

Tenancy Readiness

We prepare Young People for the realities of independent living by helping them understand tenancy agreements, rent payments and how to communicate effectively with Housing Officers and Landlords. We simulate real-world situations such as bill management, handling repairs and problem-solving, so that by the time they move on, they feel fully prepared for life in their own home.

Health and Wellbeing

We encourage all Young People to prioritise their health and make informed lifestyle choices. On arrival, Support Staff support registration with a GP, Dentist and Optician, and ensure that annual health checks are completed. Health promotion workshops cover topics such as nutrition, emotional wellbeing and sexual health

We also help Young People access specialist services if they need additional mental health or therapeutic support, and accompany them to appointments when necessary. Our goal is to remove barriers to health access and ensure every Young Person understands how to manage their own wellbeing.

Autism, Learning Disabilities and Behavioural Support

Our staff are trained in Autism Awareness, Learning Disabilities, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). Through PBS, we focus on enabling Young People to understand their emotions, manage challenges, and celebrate progress. We use positive, proactive strategies to promote choice, independence and emotional regulation.

By understanding individual communication styles, triggers and preferences, we reduce anxiety and encourage self-expression and trust

We don’t see behaviour as a problem to fix, but as a form of communication that we can work with compassionately and progressively.
